Wooden pallet is a flat transport structure that supports goods on stable fashion while being lifter by a forklift,pallet jack,front loader,work saver, or other jacking device or a crane.Wooden pallet is the structural foundation of a unit load which allows handling and storage efficiencies. Goods of shipping containers are often place on pallet secured with strapping ,stretch wrap or shrink wrap and shipped.

A 2-way wooden pallet is a type of pallet designed for forklift or pallet jack entry from only two opposite sides — typically the front and back. Unlike the 4-way pallet that allows entry from all four directions, the 2-way design has solid, un-notched stringers on the sides, which block access from the left and right. Despite this limitation, 2-way pallets are still widely used across various industries due to their strength, simplicity, and cost-effectiveness.

Design & Structure

2-way pallets are typically made from hardwood or softwood and come in either:

• Stringer style – featuring three main lengthwise wooden beams (stringers) that support the top deck.

• Single-faced or double-faced – with one or both surfaces decked with wooden boards.

Because the stringers are solid on the sides, forklifts or pallet jacks can only lift the pallet from the front or back, not from the sides. This makes them ideal for storage where access is consistent and space is not tight.

Common Applications

2-way wooden pallets are used in a wide range of settings, including:

• Warehouses and factories with open spaces and straightforward racking systems.

• Bulk material storage where pallets stay stationary for longer periods.

• Shipping operations where cost savings are more important than access flexibility.

• Heavy-duty loads, such as cement bags, bricks, machinery, or other construction materials.

⚠️ Limitations

Despite their benefits, 2-way wooden pallets have some drawbacks:

• Limited forklift access makes them harder to handle in tight spaces.

• Slower loading/unloading in busy warehouses or multi-directional conveyor systems.

• Less efficient in automated systems or high-speed logistics environments.

• Like all wood pallets, they are prone to moisture, splinters, pests, and decay unless treated.

For international shipping, they must be ISPM 15 heat-treated or fumigated to prevent the spread of pests, adding time and cost to exports.
